How can modern technologies be designed and used for the best possible benefit and well-being of people? This question has been on my mind not only since my research work as a doctoral candidate at the Chair of Information Systems | Software & Digital Business at the Technical University of Darmstadt, but already since my studies of Industrial Engineering at the interface between economic and technical phenomena. My focus on the technical discipline Electrical Engineering and Information Technology enabled me to investigate not only economic and technical contexts but also the health effects on humans by means of a seminar paper on the topic of “Human Centric Lighting” at the Department of Adaptive Lighting Systems and Visual Processing during my master's studies. The interconnections of economics, technology and health have been fascinating me so much that I dealt with them until the end of my studies at the TU Darmstadt by attending targeted lectures as well as by writing my master thesis entitled “Design of a Chatbot for Collaborative Blood Logistics in a Crisis”. My research work as a PhD student, which began in mid-2021, builds upon this thesis, so that the focus of my research is based on assistance systems and chatbots in healthcare. In the context of the BISKIT research project, my emphasis here is on supporting blood logistics in South Africa. Methodologically, my focus is on Design Science Research, which helps me to answer my initial question embedded in my current research.

My belief: “Humans should always be the focus (user-centered design).”
