Management of Digital Transformation

Within this research focus, we investigate factors which promote successful digital transformations in companies.

The conception and implementation of digital transformation is a financial and organizational challenge that can only be successful if it is driven by top management in a visionary-strategic manner. It must also be led by entrepreneurial conviction.

We examine the leadership principles that enable the use of new and innovative digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, the metaverse and even quantum computing. We further investigate the changes that digital transformations lead to in companies.

Central to this digital transformation is the development of a good database. Companies face the challenge of developing a functioning »data strategy«. This means, for example, using software tools to collect relevant data, preparing it professionally, analyzing it in depth and using it strategically. This is always with the aim of being able to make better decisions in the future.

However, this requires an organizational and cultural shift. There must be a change in corporate culture, such as the dismantling of silo and competitive thinking, the development of interdisciplinary teams and the use of mentoring programs. Without this evolution, it is difficult to increase the quality of the data in the long term and to develop a good data culture. To achieve this goal, corporate culture must therefore be a central concern of management teams.

In addition, the use of new digital technologies does add value if business processes are not adapted. A bad process remains a bad process even if it has been digitized using innovative technologies.

We also work closely with many start-ups. We jointly investigate how, and on what basis, future digital business models can be conceived, validated, implemented and reflected.
